Privacy Policy

Last Updated: August 31, 2026

1. Introduction

TransAide ("the App") is developed by GrammarIO ("we", "us", "our"). We are committed to protecting your privacy. This Privacy Policy explains how the App handles information when you use our macOS and iOS applications (including the iOS keyboard extension).

2. Bring Your Own Key

TransAide requires a compatible API endpoint and an API key that you provide. Text submitted to an AI feature goes directly from your device to that endpoint over HTTPS. It does not pass through our servers. We do not store your text, sell personal data, use advertising frameworks, or create a TransAide account tied to your identity.

3. Anonymous Usage Analytics

To understand which features are used and where errors occur, the App collects limited, anonymous usage analytics through Google Firebase Analytics. This is the only data that leaves your device for us, and it is designed to be non-identifying:

  • What is collected: feature events (e.g. "translate started/succeeded/failed"), coarse error categories, whether an API key is configured (a yes/no flag), and the host portion of your Base URL and a short model-family label.
  • What is never collected: your text, your API key, your full URL, or any document content.
  • Optional and off by default: you can enable or disable "Share anonymous usage analytics" in Settings → About → Privacy & Permissions. When off, no events are sent and Firebase collection is disabled.

Firebase's processing is governed by Google's privacy terms.

4. Data Processed Locally on Your Device

The following data is processed and stored exclusively on your device:

a) Text Content

When you use features such as grammar optimization, translation, or word lookup, the App temporarily processes text that you copy or enter. This text is sent directly to the compatible API endpoint you configured (see Sections 2 and 5). It is not stored by us.

b) API Key

On macOS, your AI service API key is stored in the macOS Keychain, encrypted by the operating system. On iOS, so the keyboard extension can use it, the key is stored in a private App Group container shared only between the TransAide app and its keyboard on your device. In both cases the key stays on your device and we never have access to it.

c) Word Book & History

Saved words and optimization/translation history are stored locally using macOS UserDefaults and optionally synced via your personal iCloud account.

d) Settings & Preferences

App configuration, custom AI actions, and keyboard shortcut preferences are stored locally and optionally synced via iCloud.

e) AI Provider Credentials

TransAide uses credentials you provide for your chosen AI service. AI usage and billing, if any, are handled directly by that provider under its terms and privacy policy.

5. Third-Party AI Services

TransAide uses a "Bring Your Own Key" (BYOK) model. You provide an API key and compatible endpoint that support the model identifier shown in the App. When you use AI-powered features:

  • Text you submit is sent directly from your device to the configured API endpoint
  • The transmission is encrypted via HTTPS
  • We are not an intermediary in this communication
  • The processing of your data by the AI service provider is governed by that provider's own privacy policy and terms of service

Review the privacy policy and terms of the service that operates your configured endpoint before submitting text.

6. iCloud Sync

If you enable iCloud sync, certain data (word book, history, and settings) is synced across your Apple devices using Apple's iCloud infrastructure. This sync is governed by Apple's privacy policy and occurs through your personal Apple ID. We have no access to your iCloud data.

7. Clipboard Access

On macOS, TransAide reads text that you have copied to the system clipboard when you invoke an AI shortcut. It can also place a generated result on the clipboard when you choose to copy it. The App does not require Accessibility permission for this workflow.

8. Data Retention

All data remains on your device (and your personal iCloud account, if enabled). You can delete all App data at any time by:

  • Removing saved words and history within the App
  • Deleting the App, which removes all local data
  • Managing iCloud storage through macOS System Settings

9. Children's Privacy

TransAide is not directed at children under the age of 13. We do not knowingly process data from children.

10. Changes to This Policy

We may update this Privacy Policy from time to time. We will notify you of any changes by updating the "Last Updated" date at the top of this policy.
